Because they don't know that there's an evil parallel dimension beneath our town or that a psycho wizard was the one killing kids.

No that's kind of the problem. Only a few people know about the evil shit and we do our best to stop it. Kinda hard for a bunch of kids who don't know when things are going to start going south again.
