To return to tea as our example, as you mentioned, there are a great number of potentials maintained within "tea." However, it would have to begin with tea as a plant, would it not? And yet we have teas made from all number of different sources--various flowers for example, or fruits, or mint, or a combination of all three. All without a trace of the original tea plant.
What then, makes these mixtures tea? Is it the act of adding hot water to the mix? Is it something to do with the flavor?
