[ the video is clearly being shot from a phone is propped up on the coffee table. in it, Reno is sitting on the floor of his living room in an otherwise fairly bare-looking apartment, leaning back casually on both hands.

behind him, Thancred can be seen doing what appears to be a casual few reps of push-ups. or possibly a lot of push-ups. it's likely that Reno is aware of what Thancred is doing behind him, and Thancred is definitely aware that Reno is filming, but neither fact seems to bother either of them, and it doesn't seem like this somewhat unorthodox spectacle of physical prowess will be slowing down or stopping anytime soon. ]

Yo. [ a brief salute as a greeting. ] So we've been watchin' some monster movies lately and came up with a list of questions for those of ya who are from Earth or who might know the answers for some reason.

[ Reno lifts up one hand to tick through the questions from memory: ]

1. Where is Japan and what's the beef between Japan and America?

2A. Where's Russia and what's the beef between Russia and America? And 2B. What's a cold war?

3. What big war event happened in 1944 that would make somebody's pocketwatch stop keeping time?

4. How long is a klick?

How far. It was a measure of distance, I think.

[ — an interjection from Thancred that earns an amused eye-roll from Reno, clearly for the camera's benefit. when Reno speaks again, it's in a surprisingly accurate imitation of Thancred's accent: ]

Oh, excuse me, how far is a klick. Hey, and while we're at it, is "British" the place where they have accents like his?

[ Reno shakes his head, smirking; when he speaks again, it's back to his usual drawl. ]

...What was I saying? Oh, yeah — 5A. What's the story of the mouse and the lion? And 5B. In the story of the mouse and the lion, did the mouse and lion become friends or did the mouse kill the lion with the splinter?

6. Have any of you ever been to the moon?

[ there's a pause while he tries to remember if there's anything else. after a second, Reno turns halfway back to Thancred to ask, ] That was it, right?

It for you, mayhap. I'd still like to know what in the seven hells is a "DILF" —

[ but alas, that's one answer that Thancred is destined not to get, at least by present company, because the audio fills with the sound of Reno's laughter as a hand approaches the camera to switch off the feed. ]

[OOC: Responses may come from Thancred, Reno, or both! Threadjacking is definitely encouraged.]

Why would anyone want to be on the moon?

Anyway. I can't really answer most of those questions, but it seems like my world isn't so dissimilar to most versions of Earth. A war ended in 1942 where I'm from, though. Not 1944.

[ oh HELL YEAH hold on!!!!! ]

I cannot answer all!!!!!! But I can answer at least one!!!!!! In the story of the lion and the mouse, the mouse hath come upon the injured lion and rightfully fears the beast, but the beast's irritation comes from the splinter stuck in his paw. As a heroic spirit who ought to be held in the highest esteem and respected by all, the mouse graciously offers to remove the splinter, and the two become inseparable partners hence! It is a beloved tale, one that depicts how all are the same no matter the circumstances of one's birth and station -- it is how one treats others that decides the course of their story!!!!

[ .........

right? yeah. yeah? something about it isn't quite right. but it's more or less correct. probably. trust her, she works at a bookstore. ]

Why would one not wish to visit the moon, in all her celestial splendor?

[ oh

she is learning so much Thank You Queen sorry reno and thancred she's here to gather knowledge ]

Then I know a certified DILF! It is my very own roommate, Young Sinclair, who is dear, innocent, and could be called by some "little"!

[ never mind she's a few centimeter shorter than him herself. she's not little. ]

And thy gods are not kind, as thou hath spoken...

[ boo. ]

The moon that hangs so beautiful in yonder sky is not thine, however! Would thee not consider it? Looking at the world from a different angle, would it not let thy worries simply melt away?

[ and definitely not be faced with a kind of existential crisis of how nothing in your life matters, that you're just one meaningless speck that can't be seen in the blues and greens and whites of the terra firma below? ]

So the mouse doesn't use the splinter to skewer the lion?

[ why is this vaguely disappointing ]

Whatfore would they do so? The lion had done naught to harm to mouse, and so it would not be a justified act of violence against one whose appearance was far fiercer than he.

[ don't judge a book by it's cover, reno... ]

Japan's where I'm from, it's an island country kinda in between China and Russia.

I don't know if we've got any real issues with America at least when I'm from

I am mostly here to learn these answers myself, admittedly, but I can at least provide a bit of trivia while I'm here.

[Though he's certain Thancred already knows]

In my time, Etheirys has no moon.

Fair enough! We were watchin' a movie where a guy said real confidently that his mom said the mouse killed the lion after. Call it fact-checking.

[ what does he know about mice and lions! ]

idk what China is either but interesting that Japan is close to Russia

the movie we watched was set in uh... partly in 1944 and partly in 1973

[ he remembers 1973 because it was six years before his own birth! ]

if that helps explain the beef at all

I posted this lookin' for answers and now I have more questions... 7. What is Etheirys? Is that where you and Thancred are from?

[ he's aware that Thancred and Hythlodaeus are from the same(?) world(??) or at least some version of, or iteration of, the same world, but that's about the extent of the knowledge. ]

How'd ya get a moon if you didn't have one before... wait, what do you mean "your time"?

[ so many questions from this comparatively short message! ]
icanfixer: (08)

[personal profile] icanfixer 2024-01-03 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
That is preposterous!!! Just as ridiculous as saying that the frog and scorpion betrayed one another after crossing the tumultuous river!!!

which they did, mind. ]

[ Hob does have one of those British accents, at least. ]

I taught history back home, you see. But, I've never been to the moon.
