[ The screen is showing a pair of blindfolded eyes, the camera much too close to the fabric for a moment before it shifts away and all there is is ceiling. The voice when it comes is a little hesitant.]

I think I've done this correctly, but I'm not sure I'll know unless people actually respond. I haven't actually gotten a response from the person I was sharing a residence with and their room seems to be empty. I don't know if this means they're gone or he just left without telling me but if anyone's seen or spoken to Nie Huaisang today, maybe have him reach out to me? Thank you.

[ And the screen goes dark after some fumbling hands movements over the video.]

Gone where? Maybe he found a way out.

I don't know. I can't find him in the rooms we were using, but I have no idea if he's left the city or not.

You live next door to laoshi and me, right? When did you notice he was gone? Are they the type to just up and leave?

I think so. Shen-gonzi helped me with this strange box so I could use it.

I noticed this morning and he was here last night. I don't think he would have just left without telling me anything.

Daozhang, I did notice that another district became accessible within the city limits recently. Perhaps Huaisang has simply gone exploring without his phone. [maybe he fell into a drainage ditch never to be seen or heard from again! ~~Jin Guangyao can dream, ok~~] If he does not come home tonight, I would be willing to help you look for him in the morning.

I would appreciate that. I don't think he'd go out without at least telling me, though.

I usually try to accompany him at least some of the time so I can learn my way around.

Huaisang was the smaller of the two of you right?

[unwillingly, Jin Guangyao finds his lips twisting into a restrained smile at the idea of Nie Huaisang flitting hither, thither and yon about the city like an easily distracted hummingbird with this venerable (and blind) Daoist in tow. then he remembers his fury, and his smile withers.

he draws a calming breath and regains his composure.] Of course, it is only natural to wish to better understand our surroundings. Where is daozhang staying now?

Still in the same rooms. I have some things to help me find my way around, but he was keeping track of the food at least up till this point.

It's Shen Yuan. I'm so sorry to hear about your roommate...I didn't even get the chance to meet him.

Will you be okay on your own? I know Binghe just left to look for him, but would you like some company in the meantime?

I can manage most things, although if you hear noises, it'll probably be me colliding with something.

I wouldn't mind some company. I could use some help reorganizing things since he was kind of handling the food storage box and while i can tell some things by touch, the new things aren't as easy to figure out.

[No more responses from Scaramouche. He's too busy doubling down on his search for a way out of this place.]

True to his word, Shen Yuan is knocking on Xiao Xingchen's door a few minutes later. "It's me," he calls out, and once Xingchen's opened the door he tries to smile and offers, "I brought some string and tape with me. I thought, if you were interested, maybe we could come up with some kind of touch-based system for the stuff in your fridge...? For the cooling box in the kitchen, I mean."

"That would be very helpful." Xingchen answers after bowing slightly in greeting and letting Shen Yuan in.

"I don't want to be a burden to anyone, but things have me at more of a loss here than they would have at home."

"That's only to be expected, in circumstances like these," Shen Yuan says sympathetically as he enters the apartment. Regardless of what state it's in, he can't judge Xiao Xingchen, he reminds himself. He's a terrible housekeeper himself -- once again, Luo Binghe's wound up doing more than the lion's share of working keeping their space liveable -- and he doesn't even having Xingchen's handicap! By the same token, helping him out seems like the least Shen Yuan can do, though he'll do the best to save Xingchen's manly pride while he's at it.

"Have you given any thought to what you'll do, if Nie Huaisang can't be found?" he asks as gently as possible. "I'm not sure there's room in Feiyu's and my apartment for a third person, but perhaps we could find you another roommate...? And Feiyu and I are always happy to help, in whatever way you need."

"I wouldn't want to intrude on your residence, anyway." Xingchen answers after a moment.

"Another roommate would be helpful, but I don't want to impose on a stranger either. I think with help, I may be fine on my own for a while, if he doesn't come back."
