[At first it's just an eyebrow with some muttering about stupid contraptions.] How does this thing work?

[He pulls it closer, but there's an eye now. You wanted to see an eye, right?] And just how are you supposed to tell if it is working?

[He sighs before holding it a little farther away.] Well, I do not know if it is working. This thing is unusual at best. I suppose I might as well make an introduction. Hello. [He goes to tip the hat that is not there before making an annoyed expression and moving on.] My name is John Henry, but you may call me Doc. If anyone is better with these things, I believe I may be in need of some instruction.

Unless I am talking to myself. [This is said softer and meant to be mostly to himself.] Perhaps I ought to stop this before I make even more of a fool of myself.

Jeez, you're from really far back, aren't you? At least where-- or "when" I came from, landlines and electric lights were normal. [ Not that everyone could, you know, afford electric lights. But they were there! ] I'd say you're picking things up pretty darn fast.

First things first: What year are you hailing from? I take it you're American, from the accent.

The technology in this place is fascinating, I'd have to admit.

[ still more advanced than what they have in belobog despite some of the similarities with their relics. ]

The features that can be found on this phone are labeled based on what their functions are. The call and messaging features also seemed to be grouped together for ease of use.

[ Peter rereads the message a couple times, then, ]

okay

and where would you happen to be from?

[ Peter rereads THESE messages a few times, too. A few moments later, ]

yeah okay

you're screwing with me, right?

[ Yeah, okay. Unfortunately (or possibly fortunately for all parties involved?) Peter was more of a space kid than he was a cowboys and Wild West kid, so the name kind of goes over his head. ]

if that's the case, then you're looking pretty good for a dead guy

[ Based on what Peter saw from the brief video from earlier. ]

You're welcome.

There's also a feature that allows your messages to be sent in private as many of these can be publicly visible. Though I would assume that our invisible hosts can still read them, but in case there is information you'd like to keep to a set of individuals, then it's possible.

gotta say, then, you're taking to this whole technology pretty well, all things considered

you sure you actually need help with any of it?

hey, who asked you for sass!!! val kilmer!holliday wouldn't be giving him this kinda attitude — actually no, no, he would.

hmTM. is that really a compelling argument, though...?

first of all

first of all what. come on, kurosaki, you've got something for this.

you're saying you're the real thing, of course a normal person is going to be skeptical!

It should be on the same feature as sending messages.

[ hold on, let him tinker with his phone ... ]

You should be able to select a specific person on the list and send them a message privately.

At least you saw one before you got here, that gives you a leg up on some of us. I spent longer than I want to admit stuck on the train because I couldn’t answer the questions on it.

Thanks! I'm not sure what "someone like you" means though, uh. Doc? [ That seems like a not-Japanese name, she probably doesn't need honorifics, especially after "John Henry".

But she is so curious. ]

But I do think it'd be fun to ride a horse, too!

You are not the only one who has much to learn about these devices. Worry not, we can hear you quite well.

It seems like you have gotten a whole lot help already.

[ Judging by the replies.. ]

Still, if you have more questions, I don't mind helping out. Or just hearing you out, really. I know this is a super confusing set of circumstances we've got here. [ And, honestly? It's kind of a two-way thing, considering Daniel would also very much like to talk about this stuff, instead of turning it over and over in his head and driving himself crazy. ]
