On a professional level:
unless it's an emergency, I'm not currently handling patients at this time
so if you have a general check up or you're worried about a rash or something seek out one of the other doctors
great we've got that squared away
Non-professional question:
what's waiting for you back in your home?
Family, friends, saving the world, a hot date?
just a bit of curiosity on my side
Cheers

you sound kind of infatuated there, Don
no subject
N-Nay, I merely... She is worthy of anyone's admiration, so... so of course one would speak so highly! T-T-To call it anything but that is to-- is to misconstrue my feelings, and to belittle them by calling it mere infatuation!
[ though... there is nothing wrong with that... she's not here, she's not even really in the city back home either... it's just embarrassing to have to pointed out... ]

admiration, infatuation
maybe longing
in any case, im glad you have someone to look up to and aspire to.
no subject
yeah she is all those things. no other name for it. bundle of youthful emotion which cause such a ruckus in her chest and mind. ]
She is whom I admire most of all, for many a tale likens her own justice to mine... or shall I say, my justice is modeled close to she, for I feel very strongly about it.
[ even if it's a little more idealized. kali, the red mist, took plenty of things on for money, it's what fixers do -- but for don, such a thing is secondary to the justice she wishes to see done, that is so spoken of in stories... ]

seems like quite the person to admire.
no subject
[ she'll become a color, and she'll root out the evils of the city with her own two hands. no matter what it takes. ]
Nonetheless! Have thee a dream, Doctor? I should like to hear it!
no subject
I wanted a family.
no subject
Oh, I see. That is a nice dream. I should like one myself someday, but I am in no rush to do so; I would like to become well-established first, and then find my match among those whom I find companionable.
[ be nice though, in theory. she likes kids. then she can raise them on heroic tales too. even if it's dangerous, even if the sort of person she might find companionable is someone who does what she does now, even if there would be so many eager to pry at what weakness they could... ]
Pray tell, is it due to the loss of one dear to thee that has caused the cessation of thy dream? Thou hath no other burning in thy breast?

[ ... that it's okay, if he'd like to share. she won't force his hand on it. ]
Or, if it pleases thee more, to speak kindly of the one thou hath lost. Whilst I am not of the mind for romance myself, it pleases me greatly to hear of others'.
[ because she does like happy stories. ]

i'll give you the bare bones version
i had a wife
Elise
daughter of a baron. the baron who also was my mentor for becoming a doctor.
she was sharp as a whip, wasn't afraid to speak her mind.
loved to sew. her stitches were immaculate.
she died while i was out to war

though, like she's thought, his tale in brief is the same as many others -- it's always a danger for fixers to involve themselves with each other, for any of the city to, but love blooms nonetheless. ]
How fateful, to fall for one close at hand... Nay, it is natural -- those in like company oft encounter one another aplenty, and from that bears relations of all kinds. So the two of thee met whilst beneath the same roof, then? Was it that fabled love at first sight, or had it needed time to grow?
no subject
not really
i found new things to admire about her, sure
but
it wasn't all roses in that household.
no subject
Her father may have approved of thy practice, but not of thine affections? Or was she the one not so easily won?
no subject
the baron actually gave his blessings to our wedding
but he was also very interested in the occult.
my being in the estate only encouraged his interest
no subject
[ she'd prefer if it her friends and family at least tolerated whoever she liked, anyway. enough that they'd invite them to dinner. ]
Have thee an interest in the occult thyself, Doctor? Why would thy presence encourage his own? Are thee... a ghost? Which I had not thought to exist previous, but have since thought otherwise.
no subject
but
my parents were involved in a cult that worshipped one of the Old Gods.
i still have that knowledge, unfortunately.
frankly i detest all that shit.
no subject
Hmhm, I see. There are tales alike to that whence I am from, though they are just that: tales. Thou would be hard-pressed to find one who believes in aught but their blade now... though with as vast as the City is, perhaps there are those who worship thus.
[ ... no, for certain there still are in a different way. but don keeps mum on that. ]
I have no interest in it, so I shan't ask further on that. Tell me of Lady Elise! How is it thee fell in love, if thine infatuation was not as the stories may tell, and what in thee drew her eye -- though I find thee pleasant company, so it shan't be hard to imagine what she may have found herself!
no subject
but you know whatever
as for Elise well
I think I fell for her pretty much right after I saw her
i dont know
i'd seen plenty of people in my time. lot of lookers
but to me it felt like i never saw anyone as beautiful as her. i didn't think i'd ever have a chance considering my position, but she said she liked hearing me talk and went out of her way to make conversation with me
i feel like she could have done anything she wanted and nobody could stop her. That's how strong I saw her personality
honestly im not sure what it was about me she saw but maybe i was just engaging for her
no subject
[ she's just!!!!! really into it!!!! that's so sweet, so cute!!!! maybe she should ask roland for more deets next time. she's kicking her feet. ]
Rather, I can say so certainly for I very much understand; I have a friend whom is dear to me, who is not much to speak of in the eyes of other that I find invaluable in more ways than one. Several friends, in fact! But only one who yet remains here, with me.
[ because she could certainly poetically speak of any of her fellow sinners. they're all her trusty allies. ]
But continue, my good ser, how is that thee courted her? Did she, with her strong personality, ask to be wed or did thee gather the courage to take her hand? There is much happiness to be remembered before the inevitable end, and I should like hear as much as I can.
