[ literally so sorry to anyone who decides to check this out-- ]
HARK!!!!!!
There are new lands to discover! Such as yonder... "bowling alley"! I have seen shadows behind the contraptions at the end, but chasing them leads to nothing -- it is most perplexing. Nonetheless!!! I wished to share to all the goodly news, and to ask a simple question to all of thee!!!!
[ a beat. a blessed pause. then, very simply asked: ]
Do thee believe in justice?!

Justice is defending the weak! It is ensuring those who do evil are thusly punished! And, above all, it is to do right by thy fellow man! For example, if one was to see another in trouble, they would jump into action with no questions asked nor a moment's hesitation! That is what it means to me, and what it means to believe in it as well -- a decent person ought to, no matter the circumstance!
[ very earnest, very passionate, very much the vibe of she's sincerely serious about this ]

[ Setsuna's deeply invested in these kinds of questions. Don is pretty eccentric, but that's no reason not to answer her sincerely! ]
I think most people believe in justice, but they often can't agree on what's 'evil', or what the best way to do right by others is. They start viewing each other as the enemy, and hurt one another in the name of justice, even when they all want the same outcomes.

[ it's
very simple, very straightforward, very black and white. ]

In your first example, what if the person being attacked was someone that had harmed the attacker before you got there?

Whilst it is regrettable, one can lie easily to another who has not seen it with their own eyes -- I will simply put them both to the ground if that be the case!
[ group punishments are justice too ]

Would thee rather allow the fight to continue, unable to tell who had been at fault? Frozen in thine indecision, whilst the beating continued? There is no such time for hesitation when justice need be dealt out; whomever is not at fault shall be apologized to once sorted, but justice is as justice does in the moment!

I understand your logic. End the fight first, then figure out the situation from there. By intervening, you prevent greater harm to both parties. I'd do the same.
So you figure out who the real instigator is. What happens then?

PARDON THE SUDDEN CHANGE WE MAY CONTINUE OUR DISCUSSION IN THIS WAY
THE ONE WHOM I HAVE CAUSED HARM THAT DID NOT RIGHTLY DESERVE IT IS THUS APOLOGIZED TO, AND THE ONE WHOM RIGHTLY DESERVED IT IS THEN KILLED

You can't be serious.

Your position is extreme.
Why do they deserve to die?

Setsuna knows it'll take more than anything he alone can say to change her mind on this, but he's not about to abandon the conversation. ]
Can't a villain change their ways?
no subject
could hermann? could kromer? could the city itself change on its own, from towering buildings sick with sin and injustice, with villains and exploitation of those smaller, weaker, sicker, poorer? could the backstreets ever become livable -- not survivable, but livable--
can't a villain change their ways? ]
VILLAINS DO NOT WISH TO CHANGE
IF THEY DID, THEY WOULD NOT CHOOSE TO BE VILLAINS
no subject
Not all villains know what they are.

HOWEVER, IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE TO ME
IF ONE HURTS OTHERS FOR THEIR OWN BENEFIT, THEIR OWN GAIN, THEN THEY ARE A VILLAIN WHETHER THEY BELIEVE THEMSELVES TO BE OR NOT
IT IS THE DUTY OF A KNIGHT, A FIXER, TO ENSURE THAT THOSE WHO CANNOT PROTECT THEMSELVES ARE PROTECTED

MY COMPANIONS WOULD NEVER ALLOW ME TO VEER SO FAR OFF COURSE
[ but would she believe them? if she thought herself right, if she was so single-minded, would she believe them? or would she become like-- ]
HOWEVER
IF THERE EVER CAME A DAY WHEN THAT WAS TRUE, MOMENT
THEN I WOULD FIGHT THEM
IT WOULD BE A TEST OF WHO BELIEVED IN THEIR JUSTICE MORE
[ because
all villains have their own justice. everyone has their own form of it. lines they won't see crossed, or beliefs they would fight to keep. forms of justice. ]
BUT IT WILL NEVER COME TO PASS SO PUT IT FROM THY MIND

[ Setsuna made himself an enemy of the world to do what he believed was right.
Despite what he thinks of her justice, he can't honestly judge her for her answer, or call it wrong. One's own ideals shouldn't be so flimsy that they crumble upon facing opposition.
Sometimes, the only way forward is to fight. ]
