I figured I would introduce myself, since it seems I won't be going anywhere anytime soon. My name is Oda Sakunosuke. In my world I worked as a detective, so I guess if anyone needs something like that, I can give it a shot.

[ he doesn't think he's very good at it, perhaps third-rate at best. but it's good to pool your resources together, right? collaborating in times of need or something like that. ]

I'd like to know what others did before coming here, and if you're still doing something related to it. Also, what's your favorite food? Mine's spicy curry.

I was something of a traveler and an explorer before this. You can probably guess that both those are a little difficult to achieve here.

So no one's been able to step outside of this city after arriving here?

Not that I'm aware of, but I only just arrived a few days ago. There's a lot I'm still catching up on.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to find out for myself. All of us have plenty of time on our hands here, after all.

Yeah, that's fair. Honestly, if this isn't solved soon I'm going to have to start looking for new hobbies.

Oh? What were your old hobbies? Or did your work keep you so busy that you had no time for leisure activities?

No, I have hobbies. I like reading, for example.

[ and writing, but that's not something he'll admit openly. ]

I wonder if there's a good library around here, though.

I haven't seen one in my explorations, though it's possible it was small enough I just missed it.

[ which is a downright shame. ]

But there's nothing stopping us from starting up one of our own.

[ there's a long pause there, as oda genuinely considers the idea.

I think that to do that we would have to first find books. But I guess it would technically be possible

There is a shopping mall. I haven't explored the entirety of it yet but it's possible there might be a few books tucked away.

If you're willing to put in the extra work, you could also consider writing books of your own.

[ that's definitely an option, wouldn't it? oda hesitates for a moment, as if stunned by the suggestion and how easy it came to the other man. ]

To write a book... yeah, technically that's an option. Though to write a good book takes a lot of time and skill. Just putting pen to paper isn't enough.

If there really aren't any other books here, then that would automatically make it the best one here.

[ there's a lightly teasing tone to his voice, as though he's trying to imply his words shouldn't be taken seriously. ]

But I think if you put your your all into writing something, at least one person out there will be moved by your work.

[ the words might not be meant to be taken seriously, but oda doesn't seem to get the message. there's a silence as he takes the words in, as if it were something that he hadn't heard before. it's likely that he never has. ]

Well, if I actually write something, you'll be the first to know. Though I might be sad if you leave a bad review.

I'd be honored to be allowed to read anything you end up writing. [ Truly. ] I've also gotten my fair share of pointed criticism back in the day so I'll be sure to praise all the parts I enjoyed and leave out the rest.
