[ The first is in what would be considered Earth English, the second is what would be known as Japanese written in Romaji, but he's called it "Laterano-ji Higashinese". The third was written in Japanese, the fourth was written in some rather poor Chinese. He's called the languages themselves clearly incorrect names. What's more important, though, is that only the second one should parse as phonetic, and should only be understandable to fellow Japanese speakers. The rest are in whatever language is most understandable to whoever reads it. Funny, huh? This city sure is strange! ]

You misunderstand. I don't ignore him all the time, just when it gets pointless or absurd. This conversation would be an example: why argue with someone who's determined to take on an unreasonable burden?

Not knowing your definition of "unreasonable" or "reasonable" makes navigating this question very difficult, darling. If you're referring to a logical behavior, then no. If you're referring to behavior that has a cogent reason behind it, then certainly.

I'd say a cogent reason needs to be logical to hold up to scrutiny.

Then that's where our answers differ. A reasonable answer simply needs to explain behavior, as far as I'm concerned. The answer itself need not be rational.

Then we'll say it's unreasonable because of its insincerity, since I have no intentions of changing myself to please other people. Kaveh knows this, and yet he acts an apology from him holds any merit. He could spare himself the effort by accepting that.

No, my apologies, but I can't say I agree. Perhaps it's because I'm failing to see the insincerity in either of your motivations... as a relative bystander, I wouldn't doubt that, actually.

Of course not. But an apology has more than one purpose. Apologizing for one's own self is only one of them, and, by your own admission, that isn't what's occurring here.

I'm curious what other purposes you apologize for that you would consider sincere. There is sympathy, but is sympathy still taken as sincere when you cause the situation unnecessarily?

I'm a bit puzzled by the use of the word "sincerity" in this conversation. Forgive me for asking, but you use the word "insincere" because you believe that Kaveh doesn't believe in the apologies he renders on your behalf, am I correct? That is, you believe that he does so to maintain some image of social propriety that you don't particularly care for, and not in any sense that he might, in fact, believe his apologies serve a different purpose?

I don't think he believes in his own apology, no. It's too much trouble to go into why that is, and not really relevant. I wasn't really asking about your opinion on Kaveh in particular.
