[Now, Junpei is fairly certain they're all here for some kind of fucked up death game, because why wouldn't the third time be the charm!!— but until some mysterious costumed weirdo starts getting on all the screens and making announcements, there's not that much to go on. He can skulk around town glowering suspiciously at things for long so long.
Sooooo.]
if anybody wants my vote, it's t minus however the hell long before we all start killing each other. would love to be wrong, but if i live long enough to say i told you so, yknow. yippee.
so.
why do *you* think we're here? wrong answers only. top 3 by popular vote get a prize.
[Does he have a prize to hand out... No, no he does not. He will find some cheap garbage in one of the shops and write a 1ST/2ND/3RD PLACE on it, no problem. Eventually. Maybe even a sticker.]
and what do you guys think about picking code names? you know, just in case.
[big talk from username junpei]

there were 9 of us who were kidnapped that time, and we had numbered bracelets put on us as part of what was happening. it made sense to use the numbers to codename each other, i guess.
after that it was just habit. he never bothered to drop the nickname.
[...and,]
well, since i'm captain of the not getting over it squad, i'm not going to give you a hard time for it. sorry i guess... i know how it feels.
no subject
sir?
the lore? that sounds like some typical city shit but he's still babby, so that's absolutely concerning enough to emil. ]
Don't apologize to me after saying something like that...
[ maybe, emil thinks, captain junpei is very much not okay! ]
Did that really happen to you?
And now... again?
[ is he just the unluckiest person ever? ]
no subject
[a chorus of sad trombones for junpei. he's relieved he chose to post his stupid murder questions in text, at least, because if he didn't have the brain-to-text filter in between he would just be going wild on the trauma dump by now, and that would be mortifying and kind of rude.
so. pros, cons.]
and come on, don't give me that. i'm doing the empathy thing. i don't know what shit you've been in, but it sucks on a fundamentally universal, quantum level, so... sorry. just take it.
no subject
Three|
I'm really sorr|
[ backspacebackspacebackspacebackspace. speaking of brain-to-text filter, there's a little delay as sinclair tries to figure out how to best respond to that. three times... is a lot. it's a lot! it's like they were trying to fill out a trilogy or something.
he doesn't mirror the trauma dump, but he thinks about those old memories in tandem with things-that-don't-seem-good-enough, and eventually settles on: ]
Only if you take mine, too.
For... all of it.
Is that related to the things that're too late to change now?
no subject
yeah, alright. thanks.
[it sure feels... strange, to Receive Empathy for going through these things, but here in the (definitely haunted) city full of fellow kidnappees, maybe anything about his past year and change is actually believable? huh.
so, alright: despite himself, he feels an iota of warm fuzzy appreciation. strange and alien, anyway,]
but more or less, it is. kinda weird for someone like me, but i don't want to get into it again.
guess we just have to deal with it. uh, the things. [.......] so are you, uh... good? your shit didn't follow you here, did it?
no subject
and, having asked it, he feels like he should probably reciprocate a little more in turn when things are thrown back at him? even if he's prone to simply clamming up and moving on. it helps that username junpei is easy to talk to, and that... ]
Mm.
Some of... The Things were buried, and some of them...
I'm a little closer.
[ this ages very badly in an hour, along with the "why would we kill each other" part of this conversation. ]
But, um, my situation from home isn't really like this at all...
Though some people I know ended up here too.
[ that part also helps! ]
no subject
[that "people I know" seems pretty separate from The Things, so he's going to assume that this is a good "people I know." lucky; Junpei's pretty sure none of his bizarre social circle would handle this place all that well, considering... well, all of it.
still.]
should we pretend to forget about the things for a minute? i hear good things about positive thinking. sooooo... how are your friends?
[little does he know,]
no subject
yeah! forgetting the things! they can pretend to forget about the things. it's... probably (definitely) a lighter conversation. one sinclair prefers, honestly, even if... he's a little curious and concerned about junpei's situation.
he'll just keep it in mind. ]
Coworkers.
Maybe...
[ mmmm. friends is a weird topic with him, their situation is so odd, so he feels a little strange calling them that out loud without their permission regardless of the way he might personally categorize them.
anyway, ]
I think you've probably already talked.
I didn't read over your post because it felt a little rude, but if someone responded with something similar to:
[ delicately tapping the caps lock key ]
"SALUTATIONS!!!!"
[ delicately tapping it again ]
Then... you've met one of the two.
no subject
but he gets this Thing, too. so alright. that capslock is so...]
i've never seen one word be such a good impression of somebody, wow. yeah, we met. i think she hired me? it was kind of a heat of the moment thing.
[he thought it was a bit but it's probably not a bit!!! now he's agreed to the unpaid labor of bringing coffee, details unimportant.]
she's pretty alright. is she always like that?
no subject
Oh. That makes us coworkers too.
Um. Just kidding. She can't do that.
[ it was a joke, and then emil got anxiety about junpei thinking he's serious and part of the vore magic school bus ]
You mean... energetic, right?
She is. It can be a little overwhelming, but... it's nice to have around sometimes.
And you get used to it.
[ the answer is also "no" but that conversation sure isn't his to drive ]
no subject
uh, right. she keeps calling me esquire? i can bring you guys coffee every now and then if you want, but it doesn't have to be a work thing.
[you're included now, welcome to junpei's collection of weird friends... if he shows up with coffee just let it happen. don has told him enough things (read: like a billion) about the whole Deal with their ids that he's already lowkey imprinted on all of them as a fellow fucked up timeline jumper, and emil has Relatable Trauma, so!! congrats on your new junpei, kids!!!]
i get what you mean. gotta admit, her whole GREETINGS COMPANIONS!!!!! thing is better to talk to than the let's all hold hands and trust each other deal some of these people have going.
[the weirdness scale... proportional to junpei's approval.]
no subject
putting aside the fact sinclair is on camp hold hands and get along (tentatively, check back in an hour), GREETINGS COMPANIONS!!!! is also pretty accurate. which is why he couldn't let that bit go on for too long, because that would be implying don quixote is his boss. ]
She calls our Manager that too.
I'm glad you're both getting along?
[ as she spills all their secrets. in the first conversation. to a guy talking about moles. ]
Not that you have to actually bring us coffee because of it. We can get it together instead.
If... that's not too close to holding hands and trusting each other.
Um, I just heard from someone that there's good things in positive thinking.
[ good things! awkwardly!
he likes junpei. he wants to be friends (?) with junpei, ]
no subject
right, your manager who isn't your boss even though that's what a manager is. i heard.
[and look, user name junpei lacks all the guile required to be a mole himself, so it's fine. if this were video he would even lack the guile to not laugh at his own positive thinking quip come back to haunt him, jeez...
instead he laughs at his phone alone in the laundromat. coolly.]
damn, was i the one trying to hold hands and trust each other this whole time? i even fooled me.
coffee's fine. we can get it together. but don't tell her we have to steal it or she'll take my hands.
no subject
(this is business as usual) ]
It's okay. I understood.
👍
[ an emoji towards junpei's friendship discovery as sinclair desperately tries to function here ]
If we say we'll repay them for it later, she should accept that.
That's how I've been looking at it.
[ his morals are a little more ehehehe wiggles hand in some ways and not in others but it's fine,
more importantly— ]
If it's okay to ask...
What did she tell you? Since you know about the Manager already.
no subject
[best plan: they just don't tell don where they get things and save all those extra steps.]
and is that fishing for a specific thing? you're talking about the id stuff, aren't you? i would be. it's not like she was just throwing creepy bus secrets around [well kind of
also he knows about the bus
but anyway] but because a few of us back home can do something similar. we call it shifting.
[it's fair to just give up the shifty details, he thinks... just rip off the time travel bandaid since don already knows, anyway.]
she was really excited about that...
no subject
but who really cares about that when junpei just
drops that mixtape
and he realizes don quixote also just
dropped so many mixtapes ]
Re
[ he hit enter too soon ]
Sorry
Really? You can do something like that?
The name is a little vague, but shifting is... one way to put it, actually...
[ the coolness of it is subjective ]
no subject
uh, she mentioned some kind of mindmeld memory musher... thing. the streams don't cross in ours.
either way, i don't think it's working anymore.
[concerning!!! there's something wrong with this city for sure!!! but please enjoy his hottest album of the year.]
no subject
Shift is okay. It's easy to remember, and it's less complicated than the other names we're used to...
I like it.
[ better than Extermination of Geometrical Organ or Threadspinning or Qliphoth Deterrence or— god he hopes don isn't the one who used "mindmeld memory musher" but that doesn't sound like her at all, so it's probably username junpei who's responsible for that
anyway. he's trying to understand this ]
Yours is really different, though.
Can someone or something really just... make that stop working...?
[ what'd they do to you junpei ]
no subject
[so yeah it was absolutely username junpei who came up with the memory musher]
and yeah, i bet they could. there aren't that many prereqs and this place is meeting them just fine. but i doubt anyone who can block this kind of thing is going to come out and tell me how they did it...
still, would it even matter if i could do it now? it's a swap, like i told you. you'd just get another one of me, only that me'd have to start over from "yeah, i think junpei is a good username."
