I've an odd question to ask, if you'll indulge me.

Let us say a world exists where all work toward the betterment of their world, where none go without, and no one need be separated from their loved ones before they could bid farewell. Each day is peaceful and productive, and you know your place within it. You need not leave until you are ready, and only when you feel fulfilled.

Would you choose to live in this world or the one you came from? Why?

And to those who know why I ask this question, I pray you answer as well, and do so honestly. I promise 'tis in the spirit of keeping an open mind.

I do not think such a place would last in peace very long. People do terrible things to each other even when they live in unimaginable contentedness, even when they have everything they want and no reason whatsoever to lash out.

It is a very nice concept. I can't help but think it would be missing some of the variety of the human condition, though.

Humans come in such variety of circumstance and mental acuity, and the misguided blunders of those who came before are what we write history books about. The great mistakes we've made before and how we are to learn from them. I can't imagine there would be much to talk about were every day peaceful and as serene as you say it would be.

Not only that, but every story needs a little friction. Some conflict here and there adds spice! The good guys and the bad guys, their constant battle for dominance! That's what makes a story worth reading.

Is this the world you speak of the one you come from? And you have no evil in this world whatsoever?

That is quite the Eden you have, then. A paradise where learning from past mistakes prevents future ones. It's something that remains to be a thing of dreams in the world I'm from.

But as you said, such a thing is hardly compelling. Life is nothing if not the opportunity for a good story. As an author of my own autobiography, I can attest to that much. Without the hardship, I would barely have a thing to write about.

Chaos is something of a passion of mine, I would say. As is whisking those with boring lives up into my inevitable tumult.

At least you have the opportunity for inspiration here. You'll have to make sure to write something nice before this City grows tired of you being here and spirits you away like the rest.
