[The video shows Hob, sitting at home on a balcony of his apartment. He smiles, but there's a little uncertainty to his attempt at pleasantness. Something is bothering him.]

Hello, all. Uh, I don't mean to alarm everyone, but...

[That's usually how people cause alarm. Good work, Hob.]

I noticed something strange during my recent walks. I have a path I routinely take as I explore the city, walking different areas each day in case there's something out of the ordinary. Well, I typically stop in the same shops for some water or food, or to carry something home. When I went into one of the stores I frequent, I noticed the things I helped myself to previously haven't been replaced. It always was, before.

[It's hard to mask his concern.]

As more people typically arrive about once a month, if resources get scarcer... shouldn't we think of something?

[A quick smile.]

Or maybe it's all a fluke! A temporary disruption in services. That's all.

[That could be it, right? Hob doesn't have to eat to live, but starving is not a lot of fun.]

I don't think we're going to ever get answers about anything here.

[ If the past few months have proven anything at all to Daniel, it's that fact. He's come across so many people who have had so many questions about this place - and as far as he's concerned, not a single one has been answered.

It's frustrating. ]

Which is one thing when we're wondering about why we are here at all, but it's even more difficult when the answers to said questions might determine our ability to survive here. [ God, if the food runs out.. Daniel doesn't even want to think about it. ] I wonder if we can even figure out some rationing plan with so many people present in this place..

[ A greenhouse? That's something Hob hadn't considered. ]

Could we make one? If we had the right equipment? The university that appeared might have supplies and there are plenty of empty classrooms.

Not that I've seen, but so long as the tap keeps running, we could drink from it. As long as it's safe.

[ That's still a few too many ifs, though. ]

I imagine more people will show up. Maybe there was a finite number of resources we were to be provided from the beginning, and we're now only starting to feel the effects because of the extra people.

But it takes time to grow things, and judging by the weather, I feel like the season has passed.

[ Given that Hob is not really a gardener or a farmer, that's a bit concerning. ]

What about you? Won't you need to secure food, as well?

[ So she's sensitive to certain things? Shadows of some kind? People here do possess some extraordinary abilities. ]

I'm not suggesting you do anything, Miss, only noting what I would probably do. Foolhardy though it may be.

[ There's a smile in his voice, as if he's used to making bad decisions and he knows it. ]

Don't see why not? Glass panes, wrought iron bits to hold them in place. Concrete for the floor. I'm no DIY expert, but I'm sure someone here has the engineering know-how on how to fit it all together.

The university could, temporarily, be a good place to house anything we decide to grow, but it's not a long-term solution. Water and soil don't exactly mix well with dry wall I reckon.

[ Someone was punsihed for hoarding? ]

Oh, really? [ So much for a stocking up plan. Not that Hob meant to hoard food from others, but one idea had been to start building emergency pantries. ] What did you hear about that?

[ As for cooking, he jokes. ]

If you need an egg fried, I'm your man.

It's hard to believe we could be kept in the dark forever, but...

[ He doesn't really want to consider that might be the case. ]

Rationing among this many people will be difficult, especially if we don't know how much we have to ration with. Perhaps things will work out, though.

[ He's attempting to look on the bright side. ]

It very well may be, even if you were the one to make the discovery and barricade the doors each day. Someone must eventually take that first step if we are ever to learn more.

Foolhardy, yes. ...But a kind thought. One should be glad such thoughts still carry on while in this prison.

[ He said 'miss' like one out of three gentleman in this entire place, so he gets a pass for any foolish kindnesses. ]

That's also possible... Either way, I think we'd better get a pin on exactly what the change is before we start panicking. If things went from one day to two, that's different than going from one day to sixty, y'know what I mean?

[ Hob means that he would probably be the one to take that first step rather than allow another to do it for him, but either way, the point is made. Someone's probably already done it. ]

[ He's familiar with the name. ]

I believe we have a mutual friend. Tall. Pale. Broody fellow.

Of course, my advice applies to everyone in this city. [Or close enough to "everyone" he doesn't need to make the distinction. Living things require sustenance and the population trends human.]

[ That's an immediate shift in tone. Suddenly softer, curious, however slight. ]

Is that so? How might you know him?

That's a little beyond me. I'm not terrible with a hammer, but I couldn't design all that myself. But maybe someone can.

I've heard causing any damage has resulted in punishment to some here, though I don't know the details, so perhaps they wouldn't like it if we did any major renevating like.. tearing down walls and such or repurposing a building. Hard to say.

Absolutely. You have a pretty level head about all of this.

[ It sounded a little like he was excluding himself in that. Hob knows not everyone here is human, so not everyone probably relies on the sustenance provided. ]

We're going to have to look out for each other.

Some plants won't need any of these but like
Still kind of stuck on the lack of bugs.
And birds.
Not that it isn't impossible to garden a bit without those but that'd make for a healthier environment if we want to go further.

[ In that case, she feels safe in making a guess. ]

Now I regret not reading those books on architecture. Oh well, like I said. Probably someone here who's got it all sorted.

Yeah. Punishment. I'd like to avoid dealing with anything the Powers That Be might be inclined to dish out. Better to just build our own stuff.

The lack of any animals, including bugs, is very strange.

And figuring out a way to get a greenhouse going isn't an option?
