video | un: NAILS
[ the video begins with badou wearing one of his usual tees, carefully setting his phone down so the camera angle can spot him sitting on his living room floor surrounded by an array of dresses. affixed to his wrist is a little cloth pumpkin, stuck full of needles and pins. he's without his usual cigarette, instead sucking on a lollipop that stains his lips bright red. last time he made a post on the network his neck was bruised and bandaged — this time it's the same thing, but the bruise is angrier, spreading across his neck and shoulder, disappearing under a bandage and gauze that looks about ready to get changed in an hour or two. ]
Evenin'.
[ he picks up the skirt of one of the dresses, flipping it inside-out to access the pocket he'd been working on attaching. ]
So I'm sittin' here, mendin' dresses — as you do — and I nicked myself pretty good and I'm thinkin', well, shit, that's another one I gotta wait on, y'know?
[ he lifts a forefinger, displaying a bandage that looks an awful like like dora the explorer, and wiggles it in the direction of the camera. ]
It got me thinkin'—
How many of us here are just regular ol' humans? Or whatever. I'm talkin' no magic, no special augmentations, no fancy shamcy abilities that got you doin' better than the average guy.
[ he pauses to finish off a stitch, making a knot with his thread and cutting the excess with his teeth. ]
See, where I'm from, that ain't the norm. But that doesn't seem to be the case around here.
[ oh, one more thing— ]
And if you are one of the special ones, go ahead and tell us what you can do. Why not, right? What else do any of us got to hide at this point?

Uhhhhhhh, yes and no? [ the specifics are fuzzy, now that he tries to think about it. ] More of the city's fuckery messin' with people's minds, but hell if I know what caused it.

[ Look, it's not even that Daniel necessarily thinks it's weird, given that he sure did encounter some people back at the city's party who definitely weren't in their right mind, and he guesses that's what must've happened to Badou, if he doesn't remember..
So no, it's not weird. It's just infinitely worrying. Can you hear the sheer fuss starting to be generated in his voice. ]
We really need to find a way to stop this city from constantly doing this to everyone. This can't keep happening.
[ If not just because Daniel's old man heart might just give out if he has to fuss this much about people getting hurt for seemingly no reason other than the city being the worst. ]

[ daniel is now "boss" by virtue of being older and... having some form of authority in his worried-dad-voice. badou never knew his parents, and his older brother was very often acting like the younger one, so "boss" is all he can really liken daniel to. ]
Maybe we oughta wrangle all the magic people and have 'em make us some kinda magical tranq to give everybody when they start actin' up.

I'm not so sure whether it's a great idea to make something like that. [ Mostly because Daniel - anxiety chihuahua at heart - can see so many potential things going wrong with that. Especially if it's somewhere where anyone can just grab it and use it..
Not that most of the people he's met here in the city haven't been utterly kind, but you never know! There only has to be one rotten apple in the bunch.. ]
Usually I'd suggest something like the buddy system [ BORING OLD MAN SUGGESTIONS ALERT... ] but that isn't going to do us much good when this city likes suddenly teleporting us all around the place and separating us.

For everyone here. [ Nice save. ] I know you and Heine are pretty tough, but.. it's got to be difficult even for you two to constantly have to feel on edge. Let alone for people here who come from places where they haven't had to deal with that sort of thing before. I'm really worried about them.
