I'm afraid I've become something of a recluse in recent years.

Making allies and meeting new people... no longer comes as easily to me as it once did.

It isn't easy for me either! Maybe it was luck that I ran into two people I can tolerate, but the people here aren't bad.

You sound as if you've been here for some time. Long enough to know 'the ropes'.

Only a month so far. There's been people around longer than I have, but I think I know some things.

I am... unaccustomed to this level of ignorance, and can't say I enjoy the feeling.

Knowledge is power, after all.

You seem to be familiar enough with the communication devices, so that's something. I wasn't even used to that when I arrived!

As for what I've come to know...

There are papers at the university that suggest this might be an experiment of some kind, but they're nearly incomprehensible. I can show you where to look at them though, if you want.

There are only certain areas in the cities you can go to, people call them districts I think. There are trains that run to make it easier to get around. You don't have to pay for anything, and the safest food is from the grocery store.

When new parts of the city open up, they're usually dangerous in some way. There was apparently a mall where people killed or were killed by hallucinations, and I personally experienced a haunted university where there were ghosts and apparently some people were attacking other people against their will. Best avoided, if you can, but sometimes you can't.

That sounds awful. I can imagine how dangerous a world like that would get.

Our current world is a waking nightmare for most.

As someone who already walked in darkness, I took it upon myself to do what others could not. Now... I suppose I thrive in the shadows as well as any daemon.

It sounds like it. What are daemons? Are they creatures that live in the darkness?

And what do you mean by walking in darkness?

I lost my sight in an accident, what feels like a lifetime ago.

How large would you say the city is? From end to end.

I'm sorry to hear that. Still, it seems like you're thriving.

I don't know the exact dimensions, but it takes about a half a day to walk from one end to the other, I think.
