Not that I actually know anything about that but I'm trying to make it look like I'm doing reasonable screening to make sure half the affair doesn't come down with food poisoning or something. You're a corporate guy, you know how it is in Legal.

That is in fact part of my motivation, yes.

Um. Before I came here I mostly ate tavern food. You know, like soup whose main ingredient is "meat" and you try not to think too hard about it. Root vegetables. That sort of thing. I wouldn't mind branching out into more eclectic tastes.

I do like noodles, and I like spice but not heat. A friend of mine made me eat a pepper once that almost took my head off, and the fact that he promised to bring me back from the dead if it killed me wasn't much consolation, the bastard. :(

More matched than we realized at first. I have some suspicions that his father might've been...like me. An unidentified candidate, whether by oversight or by intention.

Adoptive father, I should clarify. Alanei and his sister didn't know when or where they were originally from, either.

Well, you'd assume black, but he'd also know you'd assume black so in fact he'd do that thing you can do with white flowers, where you split the stem among a variety of cups of colored water and it turns their petals variegated.

Rainbow roses. He's an ostentatious idiot that way.
