Might I ask as to the meaning of the event's name? Or is it just a spot of poetry on your part?

We'd have to arrange to get one into the venue — but I suppose we'll have to do something about music in general, anyway. I'll make a note.

"Sunlight at Midnight"? It's a teaser of some fairly interesting design enhancements we intend to showcase at the event. If we do our jobs right, it really will look as though the sun is shining on the event, regardless of its actual position in the sky.

Sounds like quite the formal affair. One I would normally expect of nobility, but this is hardly a city full of such, to my knowledge. What is the occasion?

I would posit that in a city with no form of rank among its citizens, who's to say we aren't all nobility? Or maybe we can all just pretend to be for a night.

It's also a showcase of some new architectural innovations we've been working on. If one wants to demonstrate new ways of manipulating light, what better place than in the darkness?

Are you asking if I'm trying to get into the habit of predicting when and where the City is going to decide to make everyone's lives a living nightmare?

No. That way lies madness, particularly when it's evidently been confirmed that this place can simply teleport us unawares to anyplace it likes, and compel us to go where it wants. With that in mind, I'm not about to compromise my own plans trying to outmaneuver someone exercising that level of control over the environment.

I don't have the capacity to stop them right now even if I tried, so why let it compromise my plans? If the City is going to ruin them, it was always going to ruin them either way. There's no helping that.

There simply must be music. I understand that we have limited capabilities in that instruments can be hard to come by, but may I suggest getting those interested to at least sing? It would provide a variety of songs from multiple worlds and bypass any need for additional music… provided there are enough willing to sing.

It's looking like we may have some interest in that, yes. And if all else fails, the university should have some instruments I can see about commandeering. Getting someone to move it to the venue would be its own challenge, but not an insurmountable one.

I've got quite the eye for interior design, though perhaps it's more a sense of style and a love for finer details. But either way, I think it will come in useful for what's needed here.

I also have an entire apartment of fine clothes, and I can always pick up some more, in order to run a kind of 'outfit hire' on the evening. Black tie events often have cloakrooms and the like with stylists ready to assist, and I'd rather have the option there to maximize the overall look of this shindig. The last thing you want at a gala is for most of your attendees to be poorly dressed.
