Hello.
My name is Ken Kaneki, I'm 18 years old and I come from Tokyo in Japan. I have just arrived.

There are still many things I don't understand about this place. But I'm curious, is there a library in this place? Or a bookshop? Or any place for me to find books?

And where do people live? Do you just take a room for yourselves, like everything else? [ it just sounds wrong... ]

What are we meant to do here? [ what is the point of being here, he wonders ]

well, this has apparently happened before... not that we know what "this" is, overall, but one of us got the kiosks to cough up that much. so... someone did live here before.

uh i'm not trying to freak you out or anything though. just letting you know.

and i just hang out, i guess. there's a bowling alley... there are model kits if you're into models. just nothing like tv and books.

Is that why some people think this is a government experience?

right. i mean, i don't know if anyone's done a total stakeout or anything, but it's been a while... someone would have spoken up by now.

the bank locked us in when it first opened up. everybody got their own deposit box, though? but not with *money* in it. just some item from back home. no one's figured out how those got there, yet.

I might try to do a stakeout to see. There has to be someone putting all those things on the shelves, right?

An item from home? Perhaps the same way they brought us, too.
That means they can still access our worlds. [ that means if they figure out who is doing this, they can eventually access their own worlds as well. Well, at least in theory ]

No, I don't. I don't remember much of what happened back home.

I fainted, back home. Then I woke up on the train. [ he was knocked unconscious, but "fainted" sounds better ]

see? that's the point. you don't know if you woke up *between* passing out and waking up on the train. could be that some people were already here, and that's how stuff got into the bank.

there's no proof either way, though. i wouldn't worry about it.

From my understanding, we all come from different places, right?
Someone capable of connecting to different worlds and such must have very advanced technology. And yet this city almost seems not finished.

that's what i was thinking! uh, to both of those, but mostly the way the city feels off. it's like someone didn't really get what a city is supposed to be like, right? weird as hell.

they *can* alter memories though. just for the record. but as long as you don't get yourself killed you'll be fine.

people don't stay dead here... they wake up on the train again. i know how it sounds, but trust me, *somehow* people keep testing it.

Do they bring in a doctor or similar?
We can't just be brought back to life, right?

yeah no you're doing the math right on that one, somehow. we just pop back up to life. on the train. i haven't been through it myself, but other people have.

How is that even possible?
What happens to our bodies? Are we clones or something?

really couldn't tell you. but if we're sticking to the simulation theory, at least that's not as... disgusting.

This would be a very realistic simulation. We still need to eat and sleep, after all.

there's hunger and stuff in video games now, it's doable. i'd rather be in a simulation than in a place that puts mashed up corpses back together and sticks them on the train again, anyway.

That's true. I also don't really like that option, or cloning.

yeah, there isn't a "good" option, just "less shitty" ones.

we're all kind of stuck when it comes to figuring things out, but... if you want to help out, it can't hurt to have more hands.
