Hello.
My name is Ken Kaneki, I'm 18 years old and I come from Tokyo in Japan. I have just arrived.
There are still many things I don't understand about this place. But I'm curious, is there a library in this place? Or a bookshop? Or any place for me to find books?
And where do people live? Do you just take a room for yourselves, like everything else? [ it just sounds wrong... ]
What are we meant to do here? [ what is the point of being here, he wonders ]
Thank you to everyone who helped me when I first arrived on the train. And everyone who answers this post. [ he is very polite indeed ]

I have seen a few book stores and game stores. But sometimes it's difficult because a lot of the books are blank...
And it might sound weird but we did just take some rooms for ourselves. I wanted to leave a note or something but even that seems weird to do. There's a lot of empty apartments in my building if you need a safe place to be. We're all about the same age there.
no subject
I will try to find those stores.
[ but at the mention of the building where more people live, kaneki is actually interested. He is no good on his own, even though he is a loner. And while he won't be sharing an actual house with anyone, living near someone when the city is this empty, sounds like a good idea ]
Would that be alright? I don't wish to impose.
no subject
[And he totally gets the sentiment about not wanting to be alone in this weird bizarre empty city. It's strangely lonely. Not to mention all the creepy eeriness.]
I'm sure it'll be fine! There are a few of us there now and there are plenty of apartments you can pick for your own space. Some of my classmates are there and a few other boys I've met here.

as for what we're meant to do here... no idea. the mastermind hasn't popped up to tell us and the kiosks won't cough it up. day to day, though? whatever you want, more or less.
no subject
I see. I usually read, but finding books has been difficult.
What do you usually do?
no subject
uh i'm not trying to freak you out or anything though. just letting you know.
and i just hang out, i guess. there's a bowling alley... there are model kits if you're into models. just nothing like tv and books.

About the living space... yeah people just kind of took empty apartments
And they're all empty...
It felt weird taking one though because there was furniture so I took the emptiest one with no decorations
no subject
The decorations are what worries me. It's as if someone lived in these apartments at some point. [ but now they are gone. Completely gone ]
I wonder if it'd be okay to remove some of the things in the apartments.
no subject
But I think it'd be fine? I wonder if they'd end up reappearing, though...

There are books, but unless they're something to do with tourism for this place, they're all 100% blank.
So far as living arrangements, you just sort of claim a place as your own and mark it out and so far it's worked out. Granted, there's not a lot of us for the amount of housing so who knows.. it may eventually become a problem.
And the point of being here... unknown so far. Trust me, I'd like to know too.
no subject
What about videos and movies and music?
I'm just worried if the person who owns the house comes back. I don't want to steal from anyone. [ except apparently that's what everyone has been doing here ]
Have you been here long?
no subject
I guess I lied a little - some are in gibberish too. But so far as I can tell there’s no code to them. Working on it.
We’ve been here a few months and no one’s come knocking down the door.
The stores restock without anyone being there either, and just keep restocking. So.
For some reason I don’t think anyone is gonna mind.

@Alhaitham
[Frankly it's a tragedy. He's been without books for a month now.]
Freely take anything you need to survive, including an apartment. Don't worry about who it belonged to before, they probably didn't exist.
no subject
Why do you think they didn't exist?

You like reading, then?

What sort of books do you like to read, Kaneki-kun?
(NO INTRODUCTION JUST JUMPING RIGHT TO THE QUESTIONS)
no subject
Hello Shiro-san. Is that name correct?
I enjoy many different genres, but my favourite genre is psychological books that focus on the character's mental state throughout the story. I suppose that's usually suspense, thrillers and horror.
no subject
It's the perfect season for those types of stories.
I recently heard a suspenseful and horrible story.
(Summer is spooky season! All of those tests of courage and horror summer horror movies really set the mood for the season.)
There isn't much to read here. You'll have to find stories the old-fashioned way here.
(By asking and listening to what others have to say.)

But even so, Daniel is just a little too Dad to not want to check in on the boy all the same. Maybe there's still some questions he can answer afterwards. ]
I'm sure others already told you, but yes, you can basically pick any place to live.
Has everything been alright with you otherwise so far?
no subject
Hello, Daniel-san.
I've been trying to explore this place a bit more, but I don't think there is anything to find out, in the end.
This place is almost a bit lonely.
no subject
Especially when he isn't even sure whether or not Kaneki has anyone here he knows from his own world. What if the boy is all alone? ]
You haven't felt lonely yourself, right? Or have you?

I can see others have explained the housing situation to you, but if you need help moving furniture don't be afraid to ask, okay? There's several of us who would be happy to help out, and it's not as though we have a busy schedule to keep.
no subject
And thank you. That's very kind of you. But I couldn't possibly bother others and you with something like that. Plus, despite everything, I'm a bit strong too. [ until he realizes he doesn't have his ghoul abilities anymore ]
