I've an odd question to ask, if you'll indulge me.
Let us say a world exists where all work toward the betterment of their world, where none go without, and no one need be separated from their loved ones before they could bid farewell. Each day is peaceful and productive, and you know your place within it. You need not leave until you are ready, and only when you feel fulfilled.
Would you choose to live in this world or the one you came from? Why?
And to those who know why I ask this question, I pray you answer as well, and do so honestly. I promise 'tis in the spirit of keeping an open mind.

and from there it's what, a stupid spiral of killing or water under the bridge over some carrots or a slice of beef? easier to avoid harming someone else. you might need that person the next time something happens here.

But even then, false memory or no (and he truly cannot tell whether or not it was), death is not supposed to be full of pain or fear or betrayal or--]
There is that, though I *also* wish the reason wasn't nearly so practical. But as long as it means we work together in the end, I shouldn't complain too much. The result is a gift of its own.

i just figured it's easier and made more sense to start with the practical in situations like this? but that's just me.
anyway, you never answered my question. how does the food thing work?

The shortest possible explanation I can give is this: we are capable of simply creating more when it is needed. I can provide a demonstration if you would like.

i'm definitely gonna take you up on that at some point, but i won't ask you to drop everything and make food for me right now.
okay, so, and i'm sorry if this is something you can only answer by showing me, but: can you make any type of food, is it only food that you've encountered in person, or is it just something pretty limited? take something like.........
ice cream? can you make ice cream, and is it just vanilla ice cream or can you make any flavor you want?

Were I home, thanks to the surfeit of [what's a more general word?] energy our star has, I would be able to take that energy and shape it to what I needed as long as I had a clear picture of what I desired to create and the talent to manipulate that energy into the proper form. So, using ice cream as the example, I would be able to make any flavor I so desired as long as I knew what I wanted it to taste like.
Here, 'tis a bit more difficult, as I only have the energy within my own body to work with, and mine own abilities have been muted, so to speak. I could make something simple, like an apple, so to speak, but I shouldn't be surprised if it disappeared before one was able to take a few bites. I would need to practice before I could make something that could last long enough to be eaten.

[By which he means that he skimmed the message, read it again, mouthed what the heck.]
so it's not some kind of easy skill that just anybody could learn anywhere and do anytime, by the sounds of it

But at home, 'tis something even children can do.

i was starting to get my hopes up that maybe you could show me how to do it. being able to create sweet buns on demand would be nice. i've really missed those.

That said, I am working on making better use of my own abilities, what little of them there are, so mayhap one day I'll be of more use.

and i know, we just met, we haven't even seen each other in person, for all you know i'm some crazy 87 year old man with a knife, but i already know a few of my friends would love to meet you. one likes to bake, the second likes to cook, and the third one likes magic. so...unless you're some crazy 87 year old man with a knife, why not throw that out there while it's on my mind?

I would be interested in meeting all three. I've hardly any experience at all with cooking *or* baking, but I feel as if I might do better with that than my previous attempts at hand-making items. And I'm always willing to learn more about different worlds' version of magic.
