[ when the video settles into focus, prompto almost looks nervous. there's the slight shift of his weight from foot to foot, clearing his throat once and squinting to – ] 

Is it on? [ clearly, he's talking to himself. ] Okay, okay. Hey, City dudes, it's your guy Prompto coming at you live from, uh... [ he glances around quickly before shrugging. ] City Central, I guess? Anyway —

Figured it'd be good to do a check-in with everyone. See how things are goin' and all that. And as someone who sort of recently celebrated a birthday, I was wonderin' if there's anyone else expecting to do that while they're here. If ya are, maybe we could make a day of it! [ he smiles. ] Orrr, I dunno. Just do something fun? Even if it's small or whatever. 

[ with that out of the way, he gets closer to the camera and plops down on the ground, reaching out to bring the shot closer. ] 

Oh! And if you just wanna hang out, hit me up. I'm always lookin' for stuff to do since it's super quiet around here for, um, the most part. [ and with a casual throw of his hand in a v-sign, he ends the video. ]

...Yes, I think I would believe it, rather. What a funny coincidence, that it's the same way I very nearly spent mine. ...Afraid, that is.

[She looks askance for a second, and the camera droops; she's probably holding it, and isn't quite used to the concept of keeping the lens steady and level even if she the object is tempted to turn her attention away from it.]

But really, that's no way to pass such a special occasion! Even if it's a bit past the proper day of, you're still going to do something happy to make up for it, aren't you?

Afraid? [ he's a mix of curious and sympathetic, knowing what it's like to feel terrified in any capacity. ] You wanna talk about it?

[ prompto squints in thought. ]

Eh, I dunno. I suppose I could if I think of something real good to do. [ a pause. ] Unless you've got any ideas? Maybe we could celebrate yours too!

Oh — goodness, I'd hate to be a bother. It's awfully dismal talk, when it comes to a birthday...

[She bites her lip, clearly torn.]

It's just that I, um. It's just — well, I suppose there's really no other way to say it, so I oughtn't fuss about with it! I didn't think I would live to see my birthday, is the fact of it. I was set to be, um, sacrificed. To a dragon, as it were.

[YOU KNOW, JUST. NORMAL BIRTHDAY THINGS.]

It's not a problem! [ is his interjection before she continues on, and... his expression shifts almost dramatically. ] A what? No way!

[ no, okay. he'd definitely heard her say dragon. the idea of those isn't so crazy given the things he and his friends have fought, but being sacrificed?! ]

You're serious, huh? Why would anybody wanna do something like that?

Well, of course I'm serious! What sort of person would go about just making up something as horrible as that?

[The exasperated honestly is not spoken, but altogether implied.]

It's not as though I had much choice about it. It was that or the awful thing would've burned my whole kingdom to ash — all the parts of it that it hadn't destroyed already. That was just...how it was, for years and years. One girl every year, as the price for leaving the rest of it alone.

Oh... yeah, good point. [ he deflates a little. even if the question had sort of been rhetorical, he's almost embarrassed about it. ]

And there wasn't anything else anybody could've done? [ he thinks if he'd been there or known rosella, he would have tried to fight said dragon. ] I'm real sorry that happened to you, and that you ended up here. Not that, uh, this place is worse, but... you know. It's definitely not good.

There...was, I suppose, right at the end. A powerful magician came and slew it by summoning up a lightning storm. So I wasn't eaten, in the end, but...it was rather a close thing.

[AND THEN HER FATHER ALMOST DIED SO IT'S JUST. A WILD 36 HOURS OF BEING ROSELLA, I GUESS, HAPPY BIRTHDAY.]

Is it so very bad? I suppose it is a bit lonely, without any animals around, but it hasn't seemed quite so horrible as if there were a wicked fairy about, or ogres all over the place.

It's not super bad, no. [ not after the events she just described. ] Sounds like it's pretty chill compared to where you're from anyway. And, uh, if you ever need some company, you can hit me up.
