Video + Voice | UN: Serenity
[ For a good while, all anyone's going to see is the cityscape of the second district. There's clear movement as the scene seems to move and shake with what seems to be the sounds of footsteps in the background. ]
Hello? Hi, my name is—oh no, the video is on backward, uh—
[ There is a small pause, and after much tinkering, the feed switches over to the front camera. Crisis adverted? On the screen is a teenage girl, looking barely legal with a strange hairstyle. She has on a pretty friendly smile, with all things considered, and doesn't seem entirely too distraught. ]
—there we go! Hello again, sorry for the trouble! My name is Usagi Tsukino and I'm new to the city. So far, I've found a place to live, I think, and I'm just trying to familiarize myself with the place so it's easier to navigate.
[ She looks pensive for a moment. ]
Or perhaps more information on the place? How do things work around here? Anything is fine. [ She pauses for a moment. ] Oh, maybe a place to get food? I haven't seen anywhere that resembles a restaurant where I am, but I'm not entirely sure.
Sorry for all the questions, and thank you for your time!
[ The video feed switches off, but it seems like she somehow didn't close the voice transmission along with the video. ]
Okay...where am I, ooooh, I could really go for a large banana split sundae right about now...where does a girl get some ice cream around here?
...wait, didn't I walk past that place earlier? Huh? Why is this still on? Oh no.....!
[ And the voice transmission cuts off here. ]

[ Here, Yesod includes text format details of the location with a map. ]
There must be harmless ice cream available in the shops here as well, but that may not match your particular request.
no subject
Oh, thank you! This is going to help a lot. I'll just note that down somewhere...I think I just need to figure out where I am on this map first...
[ Although something does catch her attention—why did he refer to it as harmless? ]
Um...Is the food here...harmful? Or is that the name...?
no subject
[ What the feed initially displayed of Usagi's surroundings does give him some idea of the answer, at least. ]
With regard to the food, most of the ordinary supplies here should be safe to consume. The same appears to be the case if you choose to rely on the city's restaurants. Occasionally, however, the selection provided in certain locations may cause unpleasant side effects, such as the ice cream parlor in District 2, or temporarily the tea table in District 3's park.
[ But even then, that issue doesn't seem to apply to all options found at said ice cream parlor, based on his observations of someone else sampling them when he first arrived. ]

Ice cream at the regular shops is fine though, as far as I can tell. Might take a little while to restock, but it's relatively safe.
There's cafés and restaurants all over that'll have food ready for you, but if you want actual interaction with people, there's only the diner some enterprising souls have set up.

WHAT
how could someone do this to ice cream like this
[ Now that she's properly read through the rest of the text, she manages to calm down, seeing—or rather, being told that not all ice cream is evil like this. Maybe that's why she was told that there are harmless ice cream shops. ]
Oh, uh, sorry, thank you for the information, I guess I'll look for a different ice cream place. Maybe I'll just eat at a regular diner or cafe for now.
[ Also souls? What souls? Are there ghosts??? Souls of the people who used to live here? Like in those horror movies? ]
Is this place haunted?

[Hi. Sorry about this lowkey public roast. What's up.]
You should start carrying snacks when you're going out. It'll keep your energy up and help you think more clearly.
[You know, because she's getting lost...]
no subject
Well, I am a growing girl. It's normal to eat, although...but hey, you were hungry last time, too! [ Or was that just her? Either way, he does give good advice, and she should go and visit the supermarket or something to get her hands on some snacks.
She'll need a lot. ] I guess you're right, it's a good practice. Are you also exploring the place, or have you done that already?
no subject
[Will he confirm or deny that he was hungry that time, too... Nope, he has to be at least a little annoying. It's his natural big brother energy.]
It's a big place with plenty to explore, so I haven't seen all there is to see, yet... I'd like to create some kind of big map—bigger than the one on this device. [what is a cell phone really] But that's a long-term project.
If you want some company, I could come find you again. I'm not busy with anything else.

[Her struggles with the video are so familiar... the only reason Altria isn't doing the same is because she's had some practice by now. No judgement here.]
It sounds like you're doing a really good job settling in so far.

Thank you! I think I found the apartments by sheer luck not long ago. At least it's livable— [ The state of the apartments is a completely different can of worms, it almost feels lived in. ] —I just hope I haven't intruded on anyone's home.
no subject
Oh, good, that's a relief. It's much too cold outside for you not to have a place to stay.
[... Of course, there's that little problem Usagi brings up...]
... It feels like it, a little, right? I suppose if the residents come back, we can just apologize and thank them for their hospitality!

but there's a place close to city hall, you know, right by the subway entrance? it's easy to find.
no subject
But anyway, I figured the convenience store is the best place to look for food, I think someone mentioned the welcome diner, is that the one near the subway? I might just go there for now and see where I can go from there...
Thank you so much for the heads-up!

Nice to meet you, Usagi! I'm Tsuruno! People helped you find places by now, right? Or did you get lost?
[ You can't just ask-- ]
no subject
Hello Tsuruno! I've gotten some instructions from several people as well as what to avoid... I'm just going to head over to the Welcome Diner for now and look for dessert places.
And as for...maps, I think I have one! I just need to...uh...find where I am! It should be okay! I'll follow the roadsigns, I think the subway is close?
[ She is so unsure. ]

Hello!! That list would be very helpful! I've heard about this ice cream parlour in question and was going to avoid it but since you said there are flavours that don't do anything, I think it might be worth going there for a try?
Thank you very much!!

Ice cream, was it?
[ Yesod's being a killjoy and already disclosed the unfortunate side effects of the District 2's ice cream parlor. ]
Hm. Well, surely it won't be too bad if we give it a try~ I think someone said the effects last about one hour? We can just wait them out.
no subject
Yeah...but as far as I've heard, not all of them are that bad, just some flavours? I think as long as I avoid the troublesome ones, it should be fine...
[ Chesed, please...at this point, she'll stick with vanilla... ]
I don't know if I want to experience any bad side effects, even if it's for an hour...
no subject
[ but there are many other places with ice cream that doesn't cause any effects, too ]
Do you need help to explore the place? There is a map, but it can still be very confusing.
no subject
[ At least her options are open! The strawberry ice cream is looking mighty tempting, though! ]
I think I'm getting the hang of it a little bit? Better than earlier, I think. But I won't say no to company! Exploring is always fun with friends, right?
[ Usagi tends to make fast friends and is probably even faster at calling others friends right from the beginning. ]

No trouble, how are you going to learn anything about it if you don't ask? You're a step ahead of me when I arrived, I had to learn how to use a phone. Truth be told, I'm a novice at best.
Careful with the ice cream, I know a grown man who cried like a baby because of it. [ Looking at you, Daniel LaRusso. He won't let this go. ] If you have a sweet tooth, I would stick to the other shops. I would recommend the Welcome Diner for food, Mr. LaRusso is a good guy and a heck of a cook. He has a habit of being a mother hen when it comes to teenagers, however.
[ His name would probably be helpful, since she gave hers first. ] Ethan Chandler, I help out over there occasionally. Nice to meet you, Miss Tsukino.
I didn't even notice orz
Oh no, that's no good...I mean—you're right, you're only going to get places when you ask, right? I'm not super great at technology myself, I'm kind of hopeless at a computer myself. [ Usagi, that's not something to be proud of! ] But you know, that's okay, too! Not everyone's good at everything.
[ How did this turn into a talk about life? ]
Ah, right, I've got some warnings about the ice cream, and so far, I think there are a handful of flavours with weird side effects, and as long as I stay clear of that, I'll be okay. But don't worry, I plan to visit the Welcome Diner later—I can't wait to eat! [ She's just going to be offering her biggest, toothiest, and brightest smiles ever, because food is good. ]
Please call me Usagi, Mr. Ethan! It's a pleasure to meet you!
Just as planned!
