hey. bumped into people around here looking for others to do stuff with, like sports, hanging out, etc. was thinking we could share what hobbies we have and maybe find people to do stuff with. or even just chat about whatever.

i visit the gym for muscle training with a friend, go running with another (who should talk about that). used to skateboard and even played soccer years ago. i know karate if anyone else does it. and a sensei who won't mind teaching if anyone's interested.

so, yeah. you into fashion, music, or just want to talk about something with people, could be fun. find out if anyone else is really into big fluffy birds called chocobos

Um... actually, not really.
While yes, it's given me time to do quite a bit more, and I have less worries about certain things.
But throughout this past month, I've had the realisation that part of the joy of doing what I like to do is doing it in my city, within the context of my city, in defiance of what my city tried to stand for for hundreds of years. It's not meaningless to do it here, but it will mean more, in a different way, if I did it there. Does that make sense?
I realise this is a bit too much of an answer for your question, though. I appreciate you for asking it.
What do you mean by you didn't have any interests you wanted to pursue at all?

it makes a lot of sense. hard to make a difference somewhere that you're not, anymore...

i guess it's the same for me, in a way. i can't say i'm a fan of the way a lot of artists in the city pursue their idea of art. getting a break from work is nice, but it'd probably mean something different to make other kinds of art back there instead of working on it here, even if i do still enjoy it.

that means exactly what it sounds like. i just didn't have much i wanted to do. existed, without really living.

i knew someone else who wanted to live their own life, more than anything. hearing them talk about it... it made me think about mine a little differently.

we ran into a band of musicians who used body parts for their instruments, and considered the sounds of violence part of their music. there are restaurants in the streets of flavor where it's considered a compliment if you come in to eat, but instead the chef decides that you're better quality than their current ingredients. they don't have any regard for life-- they'll burn out their own lives just as easily as others' in pursuit of their art, and never look back or stop to think about exactly what they're doing.

the state of the arts as they are right now is just... a caricature of the city itself, more or less. you won't really find many people doing anything about things like that, not unless they cause enough trouble.

those musicians were still satisfied with the 'performance' they put on, even though the finale was their own deaths. that's what they're like.

Look, there's poetry in self-sacrifice for the sake of art. There's even a sense of romance and artistic value, if you wanted to argue that far.
But art without respecting the sanctity of life is not meant for human beings. It evolves past what is human, is not meant to serve humans, and therefore is no longer art.
If that's the "art" where you come from, then I can't blame you for not being particularly enthused to think more about it. And you had to document this? In your library?

Well - there won't be any of that sort of nonsense here. I can guarantee for you that the paints and watercolours that you will find in this place may be a bit on the subpar side, but they're perfectly serviceable and nobody had to lose any limbs over it.

Why must you apologise for the way your world is? If anything, your civilisation owes you.
But I understand that feeling; I had moments like that in adjustment, too. The cultural similarities I've seen between people's stories end up accentuating the differences I've found. It's a lot to think about.
