hey. bumped into people around here looking for others to do stuff with, like sports, hanging out, etc. was thinking we could share what hobbies we have and maybe find people to do stuff with. or even just chat about whatever.
i visit the gym for muscle training with a friend, go running with another (who should talk about that). used to skateboard and even played soccer years ago. i know karate if anyone else does it. and a sensei who won't mind teaching if anyone's interested.
so, yeah. you into fashion, music, or just want to talk about something with people, could be fun. find out if anyone else is really into big fluffy birds called chocobos
( ooc: please mingle, share character hobbies or whatever your character wants to chatter about. no need to ask robby anything. ♡

you from a time where people still use them?
and uh, i'll get back to you about the walkman. i know how you get music on them if you're recording a music station. wait, do you have any tapes?
no subject
I suppose you don't use this sort of thing, though. What is "karate" exactly? I saw you mention it in your original post.
And about these tapes - what manner of tapes?
no subject
some people probably keep spray or a taser (it's a device that shocks people) if they want protection. or something called a gun.
do you have a walkman? have you made it open up? there's a slot where you put in tapes and the tapes have the music on them

In terms of a walkman... let me send you something.
[ attached: the photo of an extremely detailed schematic, done entirely by hand and pencil. each component of the circuitry and make-up of the walkman is done in careful detail. there is a part that is labeled ???, which now has an amendment written next to it in looping, congruent handwriting: slot for tape. ]
This is as much as I was able to discern from the walkman itself; is the tape what it sounds like? Something flat and long, and which information can be read off of? The area there looked like it was meant for some kind of a spincrystal, but I couldn't figure out how it was supposed to be read.
Where can one get tapes?

no clue what a spincrystal was, but here.
[ Robby has attached...a very simple photo of a drawing. Your most basic ass rectangular shape indicating a walkman with random buttons, and there's an arrow pointing to a random one that says 'pressing something like this will open it' in a...not overly neat, but decent enough English writing. And then there's a side-view, which is just two slim rectangular lines, and another arrow pointing into the centre.
'Opens like this. Tape goes inside'
And then, for the last picture...holy mother of fuck, it's another rectangle!!! Except there's a few more details to indicate the two eyes of the tape, and then a random, smaller rectangular going around them. Because cassette tapes always have that, right?? Right. ]
cassettes are smaller than a walkman but have the same shape. where did you get the walkman from? there should be some there if you even found a walkman in the first place. i don't know if they would be in just any music shop here because they're old where i'm from, so you need to find secondhand shops. those sell anything in them.
[ Has he ever seen a secondhand shop around here...... he's never thought to pay attention. ]
three hundred years later... sorry, just crawled out of new semester hell o7
solid, kaveh thinks, is the word for it. ]
I see!
I found the walkman in a store that had many other electronics. I'd say it 'sold' them, but these places generally feel like walk-in warehouses than actual establishments, especially given the lack of currency.
I don't recall seeing any tapes, in but in my defense, I hadn't known to look for them.
Now I do.
If these tapes do what I think they do, then they operate very similar to a spincrystal - which is a repository of information encoded onto a physical surface, which can be read by technology that is tailored to do so.
But since these cassettes are old where you come from, you must be familiar with better ways to encode and read information.
Thank you. This information has been very useful. I'll go out and find tapes, and see what can be done with them.
I'd like to repay this favour when I can, however; if you ever need anything built, renovated or fixed or otherwise, let me know. I've nothing but time here after all, and a pair of idle hands to boot.
welcome back....to the world of the living
[ Also, the idea of pointing out things to someone not in the know is strangely funny in Robby's head right now. ]
but, sure, i'll let you know if i need a hand. since you seem to like this kind of stuff, [ knowing random facts, ] yeah, tapes work like you described. our current tech does too: information is imprinted on a surface and the device has a way of reading it. cassette tapes have a thin material on the inside.
if you see circles with a hole in the middle (you can find them in square plastic cases) those are CDs. that's what came next.

Speaking of names, what ought I call you? 'Displayname' is charming but I'd think that's a joke of a sorts.

not as far as i know, but i don't know what CD stands for. the D might be disk.
[ Fuck, what's that C stand for!! ]
and the name's robby. i wasn't happy about filling out that survey we got when we showed up.
