oh yeah heads up
ive heard from certain people who committed this themselves and
apparently if you kill someone here
you get your memories wiped of the incident altogether
not sure why they'd go out of their way to do that here but they do this sort of thing where im from all the time so im very used to seeing it
probably can't say the same for other people from other worlds so you guys have to educate me on that
so uhh
im not saying you should or shouldn't kill altogether
im not your mom
but just keep that in mind the next time you got some kinda murderous urge or something
the reason why im anonymous right now is bc i don't wanna reveal who did that in the first place
it might lead to some awkward icebreakers on their part
also i wouldn't lie about something like this if anyone's wondering bc i got no time to waste on leading people on
but this is probably the worst thing any newcomer would wanna see, huh
whoops
well... welcome to this city, i guess
( ooc: feel free to threadjack and craft theories! kromer/@gripper will also be answering questions about things she knows as a victim as well. )

And you're unwilling to divulge their name... Because you're concerned about that knowledge leading to "awkwardness".
If you are not the killer yourself, then you are either a liar, or the stupidest person I have ever known.
anonymous
on top of having their memory erased
they don't exactly have a spine either
and like i said
i don't have time nor luxury to be making up shit here
call me stupid or whatever, im just relaying what i put together based from what i'd seen and heard from my City

Thanks for the heads up, Anonymous, but if anyone wants some real firsthand information about this kind of thing--
Well. I'm a poor victim of this crime!!! Ask whatever you want, and I'll do my best to answer.

People willing to kill in a small group, but I wonder what the incentive would be. Though I suppose not everyone needs a good reason.
anonymous
but yeah, exactly
there's no incentive on killing anyone here, but there's no law enforcement to stop you from doing it either
i guess if you count getting handcuffed out of nowhere but i assume that's more pettier crimes
as you can see, we're practically on our own here but we're being watched too, in a way

It's not a wholly unheard of procedure, though it's used largely to remove memories of knowledge that civilians shouldn't have access to. Though I suppose murder might be considered unwanted by some people...
Have there been a lot of these types of incidents so far?
[ can you tell he's new ]
anonymous
but they were handcuffed the next day
as to who's been doing the cuffing, nobody knows
as far as we know, we're the only ones left in this world
but that's the thing
food is free in this world, for example
so how would this city know if we're simply getting what we need from stores
or outright stealing from them?

How are "certain people" confirming that they murdered someone and lost their memories of having done so… if their memories have been wiped of doing it in the first place?
Not what I would call a reliable source
anonymous
a victim had just spoken up about it up there if you wanted a more credible source than a guy behind a shadow
basically the perpetrator was prepared to kill the victim
but there's a gap in their memory after said incident took place
@vogel
maybe he could delude himself into thinking he wasn't the source of this public discovery, but kromer kromering up above and everything sure confirms the obvious fact that he is. ]
Thank you for letting people know.
[ this isn't pass agg, truly, because people should know about city bullshit. but also
ah... why, roland, why...... ]
1/2 ruina spoilers lmao
mm. there's nothing fair about this at all. even now, roland continues to contribute to the cycle of betrayal that their city likes to perpetuate upon its citizens. there's no helping it. there's no changing them - no, there's just no changing himself anymore.
Why should I begrudge it, since during the hours
when my soul crushed the depths of my heart,
it was seated there beside me? ]

un: aragaki
if they lost their memories how do they know they killed someone
anonymous
for example
if you had intent to kill this person
prepared a knife and everything
and you're about to stab them
that's all you can remember before coming back to your senses and find yourself back on the train
at least that's what the poor victim there had put it

Gotta say I'm a little disappointed that there's already been some killing.
[Especially if this is someone from the City, which he's assuming with that comment about memory erasure being common and the way Kromer's down there being the redditor of the year, bless her thigh high booties.]
Had to happen sooner or later. At least now we definitely know we're being watched and judged on a baseline of human morality.

If killing results in memory loss and the victims return to life, I worry rather than discourage murder, it will encourage it as a system of no permanent consequence in a place with a somehow growing pool of victims to pick from. This is more than concerning.
anonymous
if kromer can come back to life after an incident like that
then i bet we're capable of coming back too
man i'd hate getting my head bashed in just for pissing the wrong person around here
un : maxwell
So does the victim get to remember, or no? If so, super fucked because now they have to be on their toes for their amnesiac murderer all the time.
That’s twisted on a new level.

This city does well enough with policing itself without a secondary force. If you break something, you wake up handcuffed to something. If you harass someone, you wake up handcuffed to someone else. If you kill someone, apparently you forget that you did so. Maybe it's to keep people safe from the trauma of taking a life, particularly if they did it in self-defense, or in a fit of rage. Some people are pretty temperamental, you know. Doing things, saying things, they never ordinarily would, when they're under duress.

is erasing your memory of the incident supposed to be a punishment? it doesn't work as one on basically any level. so there's got to be some reason for why they'd erase the memories leading up to a death in this place. and maybe that has less to do with the murderer vs murdered specifically and more to do with a secret about death that the city wants to keep secret.
